Artists on the Galapagos Islands - how can artists communicate the
challenges facing a world heritage conservation site and make connections with
environmental matters nearer home?
Richard Fortey, palaeontologist and presenter of the BBC Four series Survivors:
Nature's Indestructible Creatures is joined by artists who recently visited
Galapagos, Dorothy Cross and Paulo Catrica, Dr Bob Bloomfield from the Natural
History Museum and Dr Henry Nicholls, Ambassador for the Galapagos Conservation
Trust. The discussion will be chaired by Sian Ede of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
The event will also launch the new publication
Galápagos which
offers perspectives by contemporary artists on the Galapagos Islands and
complements a forthcoming exhibition opening on 4 May at the Bluecoat in
Liverpool.
The debate will be followed by drinks and a chance to meet the panel.
