Galapagos: Where Next?

Galapagos Day is GCT's annual event attended by our members, supporters, experts and anybody with an interest in wildlife and conservation. The evening will start with a reception were guests are invited to speak to our friendly staff and experts over a glass of wine.  There is also the opportunity to purchase Galapagos gifts from the various stalls located in the three reception rooms.

Following the reception, at 7pm, guests take their seats in the lecture theatre where this year we are delighted to have four special guest speakers; Stanley Johnson, HE The Ambassador of Ecuador Mrs Ana Albán Mora, Dr Sarah Darwin and Dr J Gabriel Lopez*.

Each speaker will share with the audience their different experiences of Galapagos; visiting as a well travelled writer and environmentalist; growing up there and working for the Government; revisiting in the wake of Charles Darwin and running one of the largest NGO's on the Islands.  They will also share with us how those experiences will influence them looking forward and their thoughts on the Islands' future.  Following this Stanley Johnson will chair a discussion between all the speakers and open this out to the audience.

This year's event is of particular significance, as it is our 15th annual Galapagos Day event and we will be celebrating our 15th Birthday!  Guests will also be welcomed by our new Chairman.

GCT's annual raffle will also be drawn on the night with a star prize of a seven night cruise for two in Galapagos. We would like to thank The Ultimate Travel Company for donating this fantastic prize.

*Stanley Johnson is a writer, environmentalist and Ambassador for the UN's Environment Programme on Migratory Species (UNEP-CMS).  He has written ten books on the environment, nine novels and has recently returned from a trip to Galapagos.

HE The Ambassador of Ecuador Mrs Ana Albán Mora was appointed in March this year.  She was born and raised in Galapagos and her roles in the Ecuadorian Government have included Minister for the Environment.

Dr Sarah Darwin has recently completed her PhD on the Galapagos Tomato.  She has also just finished filming a thirty five part documentary, On the Future of Species.  Sarah followed in the footsteps of her great great grandfather, Charles Darwin, around the world.

Dr J Gabriel Lopez took up his role as Executive Director of the Charles Darwin Foundation, in Galapagos, in early 2009 and this will his public update to a UK audience.
