Guardian science journalist, Ian Sample, came into GCT's London offices to record an interview with Dr Graham Watkins during the Executive Director of the Charles Darwin Foundation's recent visit to the UK.

Dr Watkins had been a guest speaker at the Trust's Galapagos Day lecture at the Royal Geographical Society.

During the interview, part of which can be heard as a short item on the Guardian's 45 minute weekly science podcast for 6 October, Dr Watkins outlined some of the challenges Galapagos is facing, including increasing tourism and the threats to biodiversity from invasive species.

After accepting the resignation of Eliécer Cruz on September 8, President of Ecuador Rafael Correa named Jorge Torres as the new Governor of the Province of Galapagos.

Torres is the fourth official to hold this office in the present administration. The new governor publicly expressed his thanks for the confidence placed in him and promised to work for the good of Galapagos. He further requested the former governor's aid in developing joint initiatives aimed at the well-being of the province.

In a news release, President Correa thanked Eliécer Cruz, who is also a member of the General Assembly of the Charles Darwin Foundation, for his services, speaking highly of his full dedication to his duties and wishing him success in his future pursuits.
