Galapagos giant tortoise habitat Introduced goat damage

1. What is the expected cost of the goat eradication program?

The goat eradication is expected to cost $8.5 million over approximately 6 years.

2. Can all those goats be eradicated from Isabela?

In September of 1997, an international group of eradication experts met in the Galapagos to answer this very question. No eradication campaign has ever been undertaken on such a large island. After 10 days of deliberation, site visits and discussions, the experts unanimously agreed that it would be possible to eradicate all the goats from Isabela, as long as a strong and stable financial commitment from donors could be secured.
