Once again everyone at GCT eagerly anticipated
the May half term, because judging the annual
competition is always a highlight of our year.
2008's competition was to write a poem about
conservation either in Galapagos or in the UK.
The judges were looking for a poem which really
demonstrated an understanding of conservation and
that sought to promote conservation, sharing the
importance of work undertaken by charities like
the Galapagos Conservation Trust.
As always, the competition received many entries
from Tortoise Club for Schools Members and Junior
Members alike. The standard of entries was extremely
high and choosing winners was not easy.
First prize of the competition went to Amy Fellows
from Milking Bank Primary School, for her excellent
poem, "Conservation in the Galapagos".
Second prize was won by Dean Elder of Tynecastle
High School and third place by Alice Stubbings of
Croydon High Junior Department.
Amy received a beautiful hardback edition of
Galapagos: Islands Born of Fire, a book by Tui De
Roy containing wonderful photographs of the
islands and its flora and fauna. Amy has also
received one year's free Junior Membership of GCT.
Dean received a Kosen plush tortoise and Alice a
Galapagos story book.
